Justice Overton Invited to Speak on FAF Panel

The First Amendment Foundation (FAF) will hold an interactive symposium highlighting 30 years of cameras in the courtroom in Florida on September 23, 2008 at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida .

Florida Supreme Court justices who issued the decision, including Justice Ben F. Overton of UWWM, Justice Arthur J. England, Jr.,  and Justice Joseph W. Hatchett , together with the attorneys who argued the case, Sandy D'Alemberte and Judge Don Middlebrooks, will discuss the battle to allow cameras in Florida courts.

Panelists will also discuss the effect of the decision in that the world now has another window into Florida' s judicial process. This affected not only the courts in Florida , but ultimately the media with court shows such as Nancy Grace and those on Court TV.  Participants will also discuss access issues facing Florida courts today.

The event will include a lunch with the participants and be followed by an evening reception. Attendees will also receive a White Paper outlining the history of cameras in the court.
