Honorable Ben Overton Recognized as UF Distinguished Alumni

Justice-emeritus Ben F. Overton, of Upchurch Watson White & Max Mediation Group will be receiving the UF Distinguished Alumnus award at this year's University of Florida Levin College of Law graduation ceremony on Friday, May 15, at 2:00 P.M in the O'Connell Center.

 

Justice Overton was the first Florida Supreme Court Justice to be selected under the merit selection process, which was designed to remove politics from Florida 's judicial system and improve the quality of the state's courts. He served as a judge for more than 34 years and as a Supreme Court justice for more than 24 years. Justice Overton has been involved in a number of governmental, legal, educational, bar, historical and professional activities including joining the panel of Upchurch Watson White & Max Mediation Group in 1999.

 

Other alumnus being honored this year includes, Judge Rosemary Barkett, Dexter Douglass and George Starke, Jr.
