Florida Mediators John Upchurch, Larry Watson to Speak in Orlando

The 22nd Annual Conference for ADR Professionals: "The Challenge of Change" will be on August 14-16, 2014, at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes
in Orlando.


Lawrence M. (Larry) Watson and John Upchurch, both founders and principals of Upchurch Watson White & Max Mediation Group, will each present a workshop at the upcoming Florida Dispute Resolution Annual Conference in Orlando.

The highlights of their presentations follow:

  • Mr. Watson will speak from 1:45 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, on "Organizing and Structuring Complex Multi-Party Mediations,"  focusing on complex issue, multi-party mediation sessions -- from initial acceptance of the case and defining terms of engagement, to final follow up procedures. "This program explores different ways to make the mediation of complex multi party cases manageable and productive," conference organizers say. "The program will explore methodology for pre-mediation organizational sessions with counsel and facilitating a mutually acceptable session format, agenda and schedule, as well as appropriate sequencing of discussion and resolution of claims, counterclaims, and third party claims."  The session has been designated "Circuit/General" for purposes of earning CME (Continuing Mediator Education).

    Mr. Upchurch will speak from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, on "Building a Successful Mediation Practice: A Comprehensive Marketing Strategy."  He will advise to begin begin by defining the current and potential target market. "Messaging and an effective communications strategy will follow, with emphasis on the need to produce provocative and interesting content. Staff practices, advertising and special event marketing will be touched on, leading into a review of best practices in designing and maintaining the website, and developing a comprehensive digital presence through the current array of social media platforms." The session is also designated "Circuit/General."
