What Is 'Other ADR'?

Major changes are being proposed by The Supreme Court of Florida's Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution Rules and Policy. This Webinar at noon Thursday, June 18, will review the oral argument that took place earlier this month, when The Florida Bar Alternative Dispute Resolution Section and others delivered their response to "Other ADR" proposals. Presenters will discuss the perceived potential outcome based on this oral argument, as well as explain the new rubric for use of these added settlement techniques.All three presenters -- Lawrence Kolin, A. Michelle Jernigan and guest D. Robert "Bob" Hoyle -- are members of The Florida Bar ADR Section's Executive Council and will bring special insight to the debate over proposed amendments to the Civil Procedure Rules and Family Law Rules, and brand-new Florida Rules for Court-Appointed Alternative Dispute Resolution Neutrals Regarding Alternative Dispute Resolution Processes for which No Other Supreme Court Rules or Standards for Professional Conduct Exist.This Webinar is geared toward litigation practitioners who mediate frequently, as well as mediators who may be eligible for CME.

A. Michelle Jernigan, a shareholder with UWWM, has been considered a trail-blazer among the state's mediators since she launched her ADR practice in 1987. Ms. Jernigan has mediated thousands of cases in the last 28 years and has served as an arbitrator in a variety of disputes.  Today, she remains on the cutting edge by studying topics such as the psychology and physiology of decision-making and incorporating her studies into her practice.

Lawrence Kolin, a mediator and arbitrator with Upchurch Watson White & Max, has two decades of experience representing plaintiff and defense in diverse areas of complex civil trial work. Lawrence began his alternative dispute resolution practice in 2001 and was partner in a statewide law firm before becoming a full-time neutral. Lawrence authors the officially listed ABA Journal 'Blawg' Orlando Mediator.

Our guest, D. Robert "Bob" Hoyle, is the founding attorney of D. Robert Hoyle, P.A., and incoming chair of the ADR Section of The Florida Bar. He has practiced law in Manatee County since 1986 and has been certified as a Circuit Civil mediator since 1999. Bob has published numerous articles on alternative dispute resolution and presented for The Florida Bar, the Dispute Resolution Center and the Manatee County Bar Association. Bob is also a certified county civil and appellate mediator, a Federal mediator, a qualified Florida Supreme Court arbitrator and a qualified mediator in Alabama.
