Hyram M. Montero has spent more than 40 years helping clients navigate high-stakes civil litigation, first representing insurance carriers and corporate defendants and later advocating for catastrophically injured plaintiffs and their families. After trying hundreds of jury cases and numerous bench trials in state and federal courts, he now draws on that broad litigation perspective to help parties resolve complex disputes through mediation and arbitration.
Hy’s practice has included a wide range of complex civil matters, and his experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants allows him to help parties realistically evaluate risk, understand the strengths and weaknesses of their cases, and explore practical opportunities for resolution.
Among many significant matters during his litigation career, Hy obtained one of Broward County’s largest jury verdicts, a $100 million award on behalf of a young pilot. His courtroom experience enables him to quickly identify key legal and evidentiary issues while appreciating the emotional and practical realities that influence settlement.
Hy founded Broward County’s first multilingual law firm in 1989. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He is also a Board-Certified Civil Trial Advocate through the National Board of Trial Advocacy and has served in leadership positions with the Broward County Hispanic Bar Association.
Hy is also a member of the Miami International Arbitration Society.
In addition to his litigation practice, Hy has taught trial advocacy as an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University College of Law and has lectured throughout the United States and internationally on civil litigation and trial practice. He has also devoted decades to community service, serving with organizations including the Brain Injury Association of Florida, Hispanic Unity of Florida, Take Stock in Children and the Light of the World Clinic.
