ILAT Conference Participation Adds to Free UWWM Resources

The recent International Litigation, Arbitration & Transactions Conference in Miami, where Mediator Ricardo Cata was a panelist, was attended by 125 lawyers from Florida, New York, Central and South America and other regions. Ricardo has shared his paper from the conference, “International Commercial Mediation: A Supplement to International Arbitration.” The paper also is posted on our toolkit page at uww-adr.com/resources, along with many other complimentary resources designed to assist litigators.
Florida Bar ADR Section Introduces New Website

Photos of Lawrence H. Kolin, a mediator and arbitrator who joined Upchurch Watson White & Max in 2014 (and who chaired the section’s Website effort), and A. Michelle Jernigan and Robert A. Cole, both UWWM shareholders, appear on fladr.org’s Executive Council page. Michelle also edits the section’s biannual newsletter, which is posted on the site, as well. In addition to Bob’s involvement with the state-level ADR section, he also is the current chair of the ADR Practitioners Committee of The Jacksonville Bar.
Mediator Ricardo J. Cata to Speak at International Litigation, Arbitration & Transactions Conference in Miami on Feb. 27

Ricardo J. Cata, mediation counsel with Upchurch Watson White & Max Mediation Group, will join three other panelists to discuss “Hot Topics in International Arbitration” for the International Litigation, Arbitration & (Business) Transactions Conference, presented by The Florida Bar International Law Section on Friday, Feb. 27, at the Conrad Hotel. In the upcoming panel discussion, presenters will speak on international commercial mediation, including legislation aimed at promoting international mediation agreements and the proposed UNCITRAL Convention on Enforcement of Mediated Settlements, plus other topics of interest.

UWWM Mediator to Speak for Major Orange County Bar Association Seminar

Brandon S. Peters, mediation counsel for Upchurch Watson White & Max, will be a speaker at the upcoming “Advanced Legal Drafting: How to Get the ‘Write’ Result and Best Position Your Client to Be the Appellee,” a major seminar jointly presented by the Appellate Practice and Professionalism Committees of the Orange County Bar Association. Mr. Peters and Nick Shannin, an Orange County appellate attorney and mediator, will present: “Preparing for Mediation: Drafting a Mediation Statement with the Mediator and Opposing Party in Mind” from 2:10 to 2:40 p.m. during the Thursday, Feb. 19, seminar.
‘Lean In’ Group Adds Value to Legal Profession for Local Women

Upchurch Watson White & Max recently sponsored its first “Lean In” luncheon for 2015. This program was organized in 2013 and is loosely based on the writings of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and her book of the same name. Its goal is to educate, inspire and mentor women in the legal profession and provide them with a vital network. The latest “Lean In” topic was “Connecting with your Professional Destiny,” led by Yvonne Yegge. Ms. Yegge is a private practitioner representing governmental entities on ad valorem tax issues. These luncheons are hosted quarterly in Maitland, Fla., by UWWM Shareholder Michelle Jernigan, UWWM Partner Kimberly Sands and Ms. Yegge.
Chuck Mancuso to Tell Young Lawyers How to Negotiate Ultimate Settlement
