Mediator Ricardo Cata a Recent Speaker in Mexico City

Ricardo J. Cata, bilingual mediator with Upchurch Watson White & Max, was a speaker on June 4, 2015, at a mediation seminar held by the ICC Mexico, at the Escuela Libre de Derecho, Mexico City.

The seminar, from June 3 to 5, was titled “Taller Practico: Mediación, Dispute Boards y Peritage: Otros Caminos Para Resolver Conflictos”. Ricardo reports there were 37 persons in attendance from domestic and international law firms, multinational accounting firms, corporate representatives, in-house counsel, governmental agencies, architects and engineer firms and mediation groups.

He spoke on “The Growth of International Commercial Mediation in Support of International Arbitration.” Other speakers in Ricardo’s segment included Jose A. Rodriguez Marquez, mediator and arbitrator from Mexico City, who spoke on the mediation agreement; Rafael Lobo Niembro, mediator from Monterrey, Mexico, who spoke on the phases of mediation; and Richard Page, mediator and arbitrator from San Diego, Calif., who spoke on the techniques of mediation.

The organizer and coordinator of the ICC program was attorney Cecilia Azar, a partner, with DLA Piper Gallastegui Lozano, of Mexico City. Ms. Azar is also the Chair of ICC Mexico’s Mediation Committee. Ms. Azar spoke on the ICC mediation rules. "It was a great experience to have been invited to be a speaker at this event," Ricardo said. "I am very grateful to the ICC Mexico for this opportunity."
