Florida mediator Bob Cole witnesses history in the making

Judge Rosemary Barkett recently received the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award, and Florida mediator Bob Cole, a shareholder of Upchurch Watson White & Max, was in Tallahassee to see it happen.

The honoree had served as a United States Circuit Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Prior to her 1983 nomination for that post, she was Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, where she was the first woman ever to serve. Judge Barkett also was recently appointed as a U.S. member of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal in The Hague and had to return from Netherlands to accept the award. At the society's annual dinner, she was introduced by her good friend Justice Barbara Pariente.

Previous Lifetime Achievement honorees include former Florida Gov. Reubin O'Donovan Askew, William Reese Smith Jr. and W. Dexter Douglas. For more information about the society, please visit www.flcourthistory.org.
