Winter Park's 12 year-old All-Star softball team is headed to the Babe Ruth World Series!

UWWM is a proud sponsor of the Winter Park 12 year-old All-Star softball team and is excited to announce their advancement to the Babe Ruth World Series! Mediator Richard Lord’s daughter, Claire, plays short-stop and is the lead-off batter for the All-star softball team.

This hard working group of young athletes are the first Winter Park team, in either baseball or softball, to ever be invited to the Babe Ruth World Series. After a run through the winners' bracket at the state tournament in early July, the state runner-up girls received an invitation to play in this year's World Series in August in Alachua. Between now and then, they will head to Winterville, North Carolina to represent the state of Florida in the Southeast Regional tournament where they will compete against teams from Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.

Thanks to the dedication of these girls (ages 10 to 13), their families, manager Brant Fleming and coaches Tom Cavanaugh and Winnie Quinlan Hogue, they have developed great skills.  More importantly, they continue to learn from hard work, success, disappointment, and teamwork.  As manager Fleming said to the parents, "All of you should be very proud of your daughters and cherish this time where their innocent joy in playing a game they love is on full display for all the world to see.  It has been great fun so far and we are looking forward to what lies ahead".

Congratulations Girls!
