During his career in private practice, David was certified as a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer, recognized as such by both the Florida Bar and the National Board of Trial Advocates. He was also recognized as a Master Bencher member of the American Inns of Court and as an AV rated attorney by Martindale Hubbell. He was listed among the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers of Martindale Hubbell.
He has served as Vice-Chair and Chair on Florida Bar Grievance Committees and has lectured at Miami-Dade Community College and the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers. Additionally he is one of the founding members of the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), serving as Chapter President in 1995-96.
After thirty years in private practice, David Krathen sought the office and was elected as Circuit Court Judge in the 17th Judicial Circuit, a position he held for ten years. His assignments included approximately eight years in the Civil Division, including over three years in the Extended Trial Unit. He also served briefly in both the Domestic Violence and Dependency divisions. He served as an Associate Justice on the Fourth District Court of Appeal in 2003 and 2006 and was thereafter nominated to that Court.
